Information for International Students wanting to Study in Czech Republic

Czech Republic Authorities Governing the Recognition of Foreign Education

• Public Higher Education Institutions
• Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports – regarding education obtained in countries with bilateral international treaties (Hungary, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia)
• Ministry of Defense – regarding military-related education
• Ministry of the Interior –regarding education in the area of security forces

Foreign Degree Recognition

Graduates from foreign universities holding Bachelor, Master and/or doctoral degree program are required to submit a written Application Form along with other documents to the Rector’s Office of the public university they wish to attend.

Required documents to submit with Application Form:

• Legally attested copy of the Diploma
• Legally attested copy of the Diploma Transcript
• Certified translations of both documents into Czech or English, if the document is not originally in Czech or English

Application Processing Time

Usually processed within a period of 30 days (60 days in complex cases).
Applicants have the right to appeal within 15 days from receipt of the decision.

Recognition of Education Obtained in Countries with Bilateral Agreements (Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia) with Czech Republic

Diplomas issued by Hungary, Germany, Poland and Slovenia are valid in the Czech Republic; no certificate of recognition of foreign higher education is required.

Diplomas issued in the Slovak Republic will be automatically considered (i.e. with no further action.) Czech universities and employers will automatically recognize documents issued by Slovak Republic universities, i.e. with no certificate of equivalence required.
